Baihetan Hydropower Station's Spillway Tunnel Project Starts Experimental Flood Discharge

 The spillway tunnel project is one of the main buildings of the hydropower junction project. According to the design and planning, after the Baihetan Hydropower Station reservoir is filled to an elevation of 785 meters, the spillway tunnel will have flood discharge conditions. The experimental flood discharge aims to accurately monitor the flow velocity, wind speed and vibration during flood discharge, and provide a scientific basis for subsequent project flood discharge arrangements.

Baihetan Hydropower Station has a total of 3 unpressured spillway tunnels. "The No. 1 spillway tunnel opened on the 2nd has a flow rate of 48 meters per second." said He Wei, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Baihetan Project Construction Department of Three Gorges Group. Flood requirements.

Affected by the impact of high-speed water flow, the flood discharge structure is the engineering part that is more likely to be damaged during the operation of the power station. He Wei introduced that during the construction of Baihetan Hydropower Station's spillway tunnel, low-slump concrete was poured on the full flow surface for the first time, and intelligent temperature control technology was developed to solve the problem of "no lining and no cracking" of lining concrete. In addition, a series of innovative craftsmanship also filled the domestic related technological gaps.

Baihetan Hydropower Station is located in the main stream section of the Jinsha River at the junction of Qiaojia County, Yunnan Province and Ningnan County, Sichuan Province. With a total installed capacity of 16 million kilowatts, it is the largest hydropower project under construction in the world and the most technically difficult hydropower project. The first batch of generating units was put into operation in June, and it is planned that all generating units will be put into operation in July 2022.
